Mid-Career Faculty Writing Program
The Mid-Career Faculty Writing Program, sponsored by the Provost’s Office, is designed to assist mid-career faculty with the various stages of writing for publication, with the ultimate goal of helping to build the dossier for promotion to full professor.
The program consists of the following three components:
- INDIVIDUAL MENTORING RELATIONSHIP – Each mid-career faculty selected to participate in the program will be assigned a UIC Emeriti Faculty mentor. The faculty will work with the mentor on their personal writing goals, which may include but not limited to: work on advancing existing papers and/or books/book chapters in preparation for publication stage, responding to reviewer feedback, selection of appropriate journal/publication outlets for a given work, time management/finding time to write, or data analysis/grant proposal.
- WRITING WORK GROUPS – Facilitated writing work groups allow faculty to come together on a regular basis to share their work and receive feedback from a facilitator.
- WRITING ACCOUNTABILITY GROUPS – Facilitated accountability groups provide a forum for faculty to report on their progress toward their writing goals and to discuss and get feedback concerning obstacles to writing.
Entering the Program
Participation in the program is voluntary. Faculty may self-nominate or be nominated by their Unit Executive Officer (UEO). A list of your writing goals is required in order to apply. It is recommended that you share these goals and your intention to participate with your Department Head or Chair prior to participating. Department Heads/Chairs are being encouraged (but not required) to relieve participating faculty of significant committee work and other departmental service while faculty are in the program.
