Marie Lynn Miranda

“UIC’s mission is to provide the broadest access to the highest levels of educational, research, and clinical excellence. Our mission has never been more important – or more urgent. We recognize that this commitment is being carried forward within a complex and rapidly changing higher education landscape, and I am deeply grateful for the resilience, creativity, and dedication our faculty bring to their work every day.

As Chicago’s largest and only public research university, our mission depends on recruiting and retaining world-class faculty. Their commitment to advancing student success, accelerating social mobility for our students, expanding research excellence, and engaging our communities in ways that serve the greater good is what drives UIC forward.

These awards honor individuals who embody the highest standards of excellence in pursuit of that mission. Faculty members are recognized across nine categories: the Award for Excellence in Teaching; UIC Distinguished Professors; University Scholars; the Community Engagement Award; the Faculty Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award; the Global Engagement Faculty Award; the Graduate College Mentoring Award; the Interprofessional Teaching in Action Matters Award; and the Teaching Recognition Program, as well as major awards from external agencies and societies.

To each faculty member being honored this year, I extend my warmest congratulations. Your contributions enrich the lives of our students, advance the knowledge frontier, strengthen our university, and benefit our city and state. You make our university extraordinary.”
