Download iCal FileAs a UEO, how can you factor student evaluations into the assessment of an instructor’s teaching effectiveness when completing annual evaluations, mid-probationary reviews, or P&T?
This workshop is intended for unit executive officers only.
When it comes to evaluating teaching, students often leave conflicting or discouraging feedback, or worse yet, feedback that is unrelated to classroom teaching practices. As a UEO, how can you factor student evaluations into the assessment of an instructor’s teaching effectiveness when completing annual evaluations, mid-probationary reviews, or P&T? During this workshop, you will reflect on what teaching excellence looks like in your department and discipline, consider multiple sources of data in evaluating teaching, learn about the bias and limitations of student evaluations, and engage with different approaches to analyze student evaluations of teaching.
After participating in this workshop, you will be able to:
- Discuss the bias and limitations of student evaluations of teaching
- Identify sources of data to support the process of evaluating teaching effectiveness (e.g., annual evaluations, mid-probationary review, P&T)
- Develop strategies to analyze student evaluations in a systematic and reflective manner
