Interfolio at UIC
Interfolio at UIC
intro
In the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs (OVPFA), we are committed to continuously improving how we support faculty and the administrators who serve them.
1
One area that requires significant enhancement is the way we collect, store, and use faculty data, as well as the processes for various faculty reviews and reporting that depend on this data.
Currently, these processes are often inefficient, consuming valuable time that could otherwise be devoted to scholarly work or administrative responsibilities. Improving access to well-organized data will also create opportunities for faculty to apply for grants, submit journal articles, pursue awards, and engage in other professional activities.
To address these challenges, we have partnered with Interfolio, a leading academic faculty management and higher education technology firm, to help us turn these goals into reality.
The work to implement Interfolio at UIC is underway, with the goal of launching the system for Academic Year 2026–27. Interfolio will provide a centralized platform to collect and store faculty data and streamline key review processes, including Promotion & Tenure, Annual Evaluations of Faculty, and other reviews and reporting. UIC will implement two primary modules:
- Review, Promotion, and Tenure (RPT) – Launched – Training Recordings Available
- Faculty Activity Reporting (FAR) – Launching Soon – Training Details Available
- Additional modules will also be introduced to support faculty success.
2
This initiative reflects our commitment to faculty excellence and success, aligning with our strategic priorities to enhance faculty support and overall experience, improve academic processes, and reduce administrative burden.
As the project progresses, this page will provide updates, resources, and guidance. Faculty and administrators should continue using existing systems and processes for AY 2025-26 reviews and evaluations.

RPT
Interfolio’s Review, Promotion, and Tenure (RPT) module has been launched for required use for the UIC P&T review process as of April 2026. See the Training Details section, and the P&T webpages for for Faculty and for Administrators & Coordinators, for detailed guidelines and instructions on how to use RPT.
Review, Promotion, and Tenure (RPT) is a flexible, committee-friendly engine for conducting academic reviews online – in a shared governance context. RPT will serve as the electronic workflow where external and internal evaluations and reviews can be completed and “cases” routed to the next level of review.
With the launch of RPT, P&T cases will be submitted in RPT, and all levels of case reviews and voting (unit, college, university), including soliciting and receiving external reviews, will be completed through RPT. This will eliminate the decentralized method of submitting cases and conducting reviews with units and colleges using various methods and technologies to complete the review process. At the university level, Box will not be used for P&T once RPT is in place, and administrators and staff will be required to submit cases in RPT, and reviewers at all levels will be required to conduct their reviews in RPT.

Web Profiles
Web Profiles provide a way to showcase UIC’s and faculty members’ work, projects, and research initiatives. The key purpose of Interfolio Faculty Web Profiles is to help internal and external visitors discover the research institution’s expertise, capabilities, and key areas of work and to enable the research institution to attract new projects, collaboration, and talent. Faculty data are fed into the Web Profiles from Interfolio’s Faculty Activity Reporting (FAR). This can include data the institution has loaded for the faculty, data the faculty have entered themselves, or data the faculty have validated from the Interfolio Data Service from trusted sources like Scopus. If faculty members need to edit or validate information being fed into their Web Profile, they will do so from their FAR account.
Web Profiles Resources from Interfolio:
Dossier
Dossier is an online platform for academics to collect and curate scholarly materials, request and receive confidential letters of recommendations, and prepare for evaluations and reviews. Dossier provides one centralized account for scholars to collect/manage materials and request/receive confidential letters of recommendation. All faculty members can use Dossier to share their CV, publications, and other important career related materials for easy reference and choose to share and review selected materials with mentors and colleagues. These documents can also be included as part of P&T review cases within RPT.
Faculty who have used Dossier previously with a personal e-mail address, this article shows how to merge your two accounts.
**Dossier is an Interfolio product, not to be mistaken with the UIC P&T Dossier Forms. With the launch of FAR, the UIC Dossier Forms will be replaced with Interfolio’s P&T “Vita”.

FAQs
FAQs will continue to be added along with answers. Questions can be sent to facultyreviews@uic.edu.
- Will Interfolio be used for AY 2025-26 faculty evaluations and reviews?
- No. Interfolio’s RPT module will be ready to use for the AY 2026-27 evaluation and review cycles. An announcement will be sent with more details on the launch of each module and how to begin using them.
- Interfolio’s FAR module will be ready to use in AY 2026-27 in terms of faculty profiles, activity tracking, and reporting, but FAR will not be used to generate P&T “Vitas” (dossiers) for the AY 26-27 P&T review. UIC Dossier Forms will be used for AY 26-27 and will be submitted into RPT for reviews at all levels.
- Faculty and administrators should continue using existing systems and processes for AY 2025-26 reviews and evaluations.
- Will UIC P&T Dossier Forms still be used?
- For the AY 2026-27 P&T review, UIC P&T Dossier Forms will be used and submitted into RPT for reviews at all levels.
- For the AY 2027-28 P&T review, UIC P&T Dossier Forms will be replaced with Interfolio’s P&T “Vita”. Faculty data in FAR that is required for P&T review will feed directly into a candidate’s RPT case via Interfolio’s FAR/RPT Integration tool. This will generate the candidate’s P&T “Vita,” in accordance with the OVPFA-maintained “Vita Template”, based on the current state of their FAR data at the time their case is launched in RPT. Candidates will have the opportunity to review the generated Vita, edit their FAR data, and “regenerate” the Vita with any updates before submitting their case for review. The required data and content for P&T review will not change, just the platform and method to organize the required information.
- More information on launch dates and when the different modules/processes should be used will be communicated and included on this page. Until that time, faculty and administrators should continue using processes already in place.
- When can external reviews be solicited for P&T reviews in RPT?
- External reviews may be solicited through RPT once it is launched and training has been completed (March–April 2026). Trainings, by user role, will be scheduled to align with the launch and when each user type will begin using RPT, starting with administrators and staff. For AY 2026-27 external reviews may solicited outside of Interfolio-RPT, and can be manually uploaded into RPT, along with the required correspondence.
- External reviews that have already been solicited before the launch of RPT can be manually uploaded into RPT, along with the required correspondence.
- Will Interfolio be used for Tenured Faculty Hire Workflows?
- No. Interfolio’s RPT module will be used only for Promotion & Tenure workflows for faculty currently employed at UIC. Administrators should continue to reference and follow the procedures outlined in the Faculty Hiring Toolkit for hiring Tenured Faculty.
- What will happen to MyActivities and faculty data stored there?
- Data from MyActivities will be migrated into FAR in June 2026. Any data entered into MyActivities after June 1 will not be migrated and faculty will be responsible for adding the data into FAR manually.
- Faculty from all colleges, except from the School of Public Health and the College of Social Work, will have data migrated from MyActivities into FAR. Public Health and Social Work selected not to have data migrated from MyActivities, which means faculty will begin with fresh FAR profiles and will need to add their data manually.
- MyActivities will stay available until summer 2027 in a “read-only” mode, and data will stay in MyActivities for faculty to view and compare their FAR profiles to confirm the accuracy of data.
- Will Interfolio load data from other faculty data systems?
- Yes. Interfolio loads data from existing sources of academic information. In addition to UIC’s own data sources like Banner and myResearch Portal, or the outgoing MyActivities system, Interfolio collaborates with a number of partners to provide a thorough picture of faculty data. Learn more about how Interfolio sources academic data and see a list of their existing data partners: interfolio.com/data/
- What does each Interfolio module replace?
- Review, Promotion, and Tenure (RPT) will replace the decentralized and manual method of conducting reviews currently. RPT will serve as the electronic workflow where external and internal reviews can be completed and “cases” routed to the next level of review. All levels of review and voting (unit, college, university), including soliciting and receiving external reviews, will be completed through RPT. At the university level, Box will not be used for P&T once RPT is in place, and reviewers at all levels will be required to conduct their reviews in RPT.
- Faculty Activity Reporting (FAR) will replace MyActivites, and other systems/processes used to track faculty activities and conduct reporting, starting AY 2026-27. For the AY 2027-28 P&T review, FAR will help replace the UIC P&T Dossier Forms with Interfolio’s P&T “Vita”, which will be generated through the FAR/RPT integration tool.
- Will training and support be provided?
- Yes. Training and support will be provided for each user role by Interfolio.
- The OVPFA will also be equipped to provide basic resources and support to all users. Please refer to the “Overview & Timeline” section for more information about training and support.
- Access to some Interfolio learning resources will not be available to all users until the system is launched.
