Step One
As an administrator, in order to access Academic Analytics, your credentials must first be added to this system. Please fill out the Academic Analytics Portal Request Form to gain access:

Research Insight: Offers administrators the opportunity to utilize data to support and strengthen strategic priorities and decision-making within departments and colleges. Explore opportunities for funding and honorific award opportunities, identify faculty members with strong profiles for nominations, and enhance recruitment efforts by discovering scholars across a broad range of subject areas and much more.
Benchmarking Suite: Most traditionally offered to Unit Heads, Deans, and Associate Deans, Benchmarking/Analysis on Demand provides administrators with unit, college-level benchmarking analysis for strategic decision support. Understand trending research topics, identify active research and under-recognized faculty, and support career development through career trends.
Please note: all new users are required to view a training video and acknowledge the license agreement before receiving access. The video will review their content, data sources, and tool navigation and provide additional training resources.
For Faculty (Faculty Insight)

A tool available to all tenure-track and tenured faculty that allows instructors to create custom profiles based on a pre-populated research profile.

With this profile, faculty will be able to search the Academic Analytics database to identify subject matter experts locally and across the nation, receive personalized suggestions for funding opportunities and honorific awards based on their career stage, and identify outlets for their scholarly and creative works.
For Health Sciences (Medical Insight)

COMING SOON: A custom tool available to all faculty in the College of Medicine that provides comparative analytics of research metrics for department faculty in medical schools.

Academic Analytics has built a database of over 185,000 medical department faculty, in 80 disciplines, across 158 NIH-funded medical schools, and 112 cancer centers that allows faculty to identify the research strengths of their medical school, explore collaborations internal and external to campus, and identify funding and honorifics targeted to experts in medical fields.

What data are included in Academic Analytics?

Academic Analytics compiles a wide array of publicly accessible data on faculty research, such as publications, citations, grants, awards, and other academic accomplishments across multiple fields. The database is frequently updated to maintain accuracy and relevance.

To offer a comprehensive picture of faculty achievements, the platform also incorporates data from the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and the Office of Institutional Research, which includes information that may not be found in external public sources. However, it is crucial for faculty to continuously review and input past data from work at other institutions to ensure their entire career is accurately represented.
How is Academic Analytics data used at UIC?

Faculty can edit their profile name, research summary, research interest, and research keywords from the drop-down menu with the body icon in the top right corner of the page.

Users can learn to manage their research profile and identify opportunities for funding, honorific awards, and match potential collaborators and mentorship networks in their academic disciplines.

Can faculty opt out of having their information displayed publicly?

Faculty have the option to opt out if they prefer not to have their information displayed publicly.

However, please note that your information will still be visible to fellow faculty at UIC.
If an error is discovered in the database, can it be changed or corrected?

Faculty and staff are encouraged to notify Academic Analytics if they believe there is an error in the database. Kindly email a description of the issue to Academic Analytics, and provide a screenshot of the tool or data you are viewing, or the error code (if available).

Academic Analytics will review your inquiry and respond with an explanation, as well as information on when any errors will be addressed.
What uses of Academic Analytics data are restricted or prohibited at UIC?

The nature of the data collected by Academic Analytics means that it does not account for critical evidence of research, scholarship, or creative activity in some disciplines, particularly in the humanities and arts. In these contexts, the Academic Analytics database may have significantly less value, and its use must be commensurate with that value.
The utilization of Academic Analytics data is restricted insofar as it may never be used as the only data point to reference any decision that could affect an individual faculty member or program, either positively or negatively.

It is acknowledged that the data is not equally comprehensive or useful for all disciplines and it must therefore be utilized and interpreted with that in mind.
The utilization or referencing of Academic Analytics is entirely prohibited in the following instances:
- Annual faculty performance evaluations
- Merit raises
- Decisions about teaching loads
- Promotion and tenure decisions
- Faculty termination
- Program
