Larry Danziger is the Executive Director of the Center for Advanced Design, Research, and Exploration (CADRE), Professor of Pharmacy Practice, Professor of Pharmacy in Medicine, and the Co-Director of the Section of Infectious Diseases, College of Pharmacy.   He played a critical role in the redevelopment of paromomycin, an antibiotic originally developed in the 1950s. In a collaboration between the University and the World Health Organization, paromomycin was developed for treatment of visceral leishmaniasis and granted orphan drug status in 2005.

Xiaoping Du has made many discoveries important not only to basic Molecular and Cell Biology but also thrombosis, hemostasis, and inflammation. He has also been translating these discoveries into novel drugs for future treatment of thrombo-inflammatory diseases. These works are published in Cell, Nature, Science, Science Translational Medicine, and other high-quality journals. Du has also trained many Ph.D. students and postdoctoral fellows who are now professors in academia and scientists in industry.

Jie Liang has developed powerful algorithms for computing exact probability landscapes of stochastic networks, 3D ensemble folding of single-cell chromatin, protein surface and function prediction, and membrane protein biophysics. He was a driving force in establishing UIC’s Ph.D./MS Bioinformatics Program in 2003 and has mentored 21 Ph.D. students, including leaders in academia at Ivy League universities and in the Biotech Industry. In 2019, He brought the IEEE Biomedical Informatics Flagship Conference to UIC as conference chair.

William Mieler has written over 380 peer-reviewed publications, 100 book chapters, and 7 textbooks. He has been Chair of the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO), President of the Association of Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), President of the Macula Society, and has served on the Board of Trustees of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the Council of the American Ophthalmological Society. Mieler has lectured internationally in over 60 countries and taught and mentored UIC ophthalmology residents and fellows.

Anna Curtenius Roosevelt is a four-field anthropologist interested in social and biological evolution, human-environment interaction, and human rights. She has been a UIC Professor of Anthropology since 1994. Her field research has changed understanding of the history and prehistory of the tropical forests and the peopling of the Americas. Roosevelt has authored or co-authored ten books and more than 100 scientific articles. She has served on the boards of many scientific or conservation organizations.
