At the direction of President Killeen, UIC is in receipt of $2 million for the Presidential Humanities and Social Science Endowment at UIC. The proceeds from this endowment will be used to support up to two scholars as endowed professors in the humanities or social sciences engaged in the study of innovation and discovery.

Eligibility
- Nominations are limited to tenured, full professors.
- Nominations must address the goal of the Endowment, which is to support faculty from the humanities and social sciences who are engaged in the study of innovation and discovery. Nominations should establish that the nominee’s scholarship:
- Reflects a broad understanding and definition of innovation and discovery;
- Seeks to enhance the research portfolio of the resident college;
- Plays a transformative role in their respective fields;
- Has potential to offer diverse learning experiences to UIC students;
- Advances the strategic mission of UIC and the nominee’s resident college to inspire, educate, and prepare professionals to be outstanding educators, leaders, and scholars in urban, global, and diverse educational and community settings.

Conditions Associated
- Endowed professors will receive $15,000 annually to support their scholarly and instructional activity.
- Supported uses may include, but are not limited to, salary, salary supplement, research support, travel, and other expenses related to the professor’s teaching or research responsibilities.
- Endowed professorships will be active for a three-year term.
- Colleges are eligible to receive a maximum of one award per cycle.

Nomination Process
- Nominations may originate from any academic unit at UIC. Whether nominations originate from a department, college, or other academic unit, the path of the nomination must follow the same pattern. The nomination will first be considered in the department or area of UIC where tenure is or would be held by the nominee. The department or area forwards the recommendations to the Dean. The Dean, with the approval of the college executive committee and at their discretion, will subject nominees to rank order and submit this information to the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs.
- All nominations must include:
- A letter of nomination from the UEO to the Dean (maximum 3 pages). The nominating letter should clearly address eligibility criteria a-d above for the endowed professorship.
- A letter of nomination from the Dean to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs (maximum 3 pages). The nominating letter should clearly address eligibility criterion e above for the endowed professorship. As well, the dean’s letter should provide a clear description of the process used by the college to select the nominee.
- Nominee’s current CV
- A review panel will make its determinations based on the above required nomination materials, which must be included with all nominations. Conciseness and brevity are encouraged. Failure to supply all required materials will result in a returned application requiring further clarification and additions if submitted at least 5 days prior to the deadline. Incomplete applications submitted at the deadline will not move forward for review.
