Consider connecting with the UIC campus on August 16 for additional and engaging activities!
Faculty Affairs has curated a number of events to welcome you to the campus community. Whether you are new to UIC, or completely new to Chicago, pre-orientation will highlight special locations on campus worth experiencing! Get to know UIC and meet the wonderful team at the Center for the Advancement of Teaching Excellence (CATE) during their open house!
All events are optional, but spaces may be limited. RSVPs would be greatly appreciated.

Where to park and how to pick up a parking pass
For all activities on August 16th, please park in the Halsted and Taylor Parking Structure. A parking pass is needed to leave the parking structure.
Passes will be available at the following locations:
- Jane Addams Hull House
- UIC Visitor’s Center
- Center for the Advancement of Teaching Excellence (CATE)
- University Hall, 27th floor, Office 2733 (The elevators to the 27th floor are closest to the cafe)

- Learn more about our vibrant campus through a 15-minute presentation, hosted by the UIC Visitor’s Center.

10:15am | East + West Campus Tour
- Allow Campus Tour Leaders to guide you through the UIC Campus! Tour will depart from the UIC visitor’s center, through east campus. UIC busses will shuttle you for a tour of the medical Campus.

11:00am | Hull House Visit
- Visit original buildings from Chicago’s first settlement house. Exhibits depict the life and work of courageous social worker and Illinois native, Jane Addams.

1:00pm to 3:00pm | CATE Open House
- Visit the Center for the Advancement of Teaching Excellence for their open house! Tour the new CATE building, meet and build community with other UIC instructors, and learn about resources, services, and programming that CATE offers.

4:00pm | SITL Group Tour
- The SITL is an American College of Surgeons (ACS) Accredited Level-1 Comprehensive Institute, as well as an appointed Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) Test Center through the Society of American and Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES). The lab facilitates surgical training for University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) medical students and residents from Departments of Surgery, Neurosurgery, Urology, Obstetrics and Gynecology and residents from other affiliated hospitals. The SITL also provides robotic surgical training for attending surgeons across the country in both basic and advanced levels.
- First-come, first-served. Due to capacity limitations, this opportunity will only be available to the first 30 people able to attend.
- The tour will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
